Game Review (written by Flytjones) Added on: 11/16/2006
Afterburner: Most kids have had the thought of being a pilot cross their minds. This is awesome, it places you in the seat of a jet and you are a fighter pilot. If you've ever thought of it, this is your game. Take down enemy Migs and enjoy a wide variety of weapons (purchased as upgrades of course) all while avoiding enemy fire and returning for that dreaded carrier landing.
Gameplay and Controls: The story line is lacking slightly but not too terribly much.
I mean, how much story you need to shoot down a Mig. Controls are simple and child-like in mastery, but the gameplay remains interesting and challenging enough to allow even the oldest kid at heart to enjoy him/herself at it. Overall the story doesn't really detract: 5 of 5
Graphics: The graphics in Afterburner will leave some wanting, however; for the time, these were not bad. You can tell the difference between different types of jets, when afterburners actually kicked in, you could see it. Fire, and you could watch your enemies blow up! Accounting for the age: 3 of 5
Music and Sounds: No background music to this game, definitely a draw back...but once you shoot down your first Mig, you forget all about that. Sounds

are also lacking, present, but lacking. Although, you will be able to hear your missiles fire, your guns discharging, and your enemy exploding. As well as hearing the ever present engine sound, the afterburners kick in for a little extra drama. Overall: 4 of 5
Replayability: Unbelievable!! Even the most hardened gamers will eventually lose. You WILL be shot down and when that happens, you want revenge! So you start again, saving your money to allow for the purchase of your favourite missiles, whether it be the huge Phoenix all the way to the small but feared Sidewinders. Then you meat the enemy Mig(s) that shot you down and you make them fear you! If only every game were able to be played this much. Still, there's more. Because after you shoot them down, that rush you get from taking them out, leaves you wanting more. It's like video game crack! On an extremely honest rate, I'd say a high 4 of 5!
Overview: Overall this is a solid game and although slightly retro now, will be enjoyable for at least another generation. It is just that fun of a game. If you're even considering downloading it...DO IT! Total: 16 of 20
