Game Review (written by Darklegionnaire) Added on: 12/06/2006
The game is a blend of RPG elements and adventure, and much like Sierra’s “Quest for Glory” series, the RPG elements are a major factor, being used for more than just additions. You play Ransom Stark, the games protagonist. The character generation arena of the game is influential to the games plot, which can essentially change main aspects of the varied story. Unfortunately, this kind of diversity is also a major hindrance to the game. In-game time is an important aspect to the plot, thus if you’re not at a specific area at a specific time, you will miss it forever, so save as often as possible.

The story takes place in 2094, with your main character being in New York.

Unfortunately for him, he’s been bitten by a vampire and will turn soon if he doesn’t find a way to stop it. Only the chip in his head can slow down the process… for now, and only for a few days. You’re involved with a conspiracy involving a domineering mega corporation, and vampires, not to mention your massive fondness of spending too much time in Cyberspace created some burnout in your brain. Luckily an intuitive woman and friend of yours, Deidre Tackett, save your life and your grip on sanity by inserting that wonderful chip of yours. As a slowly-turning follower of the undead, you must hold onto your sanity, while stopping the vampire lord who bit you, Abraham Van Helsing—from taking over Manhattan and Cyberspace before it’s too late!
The Graphics are impressive, especially for their time; the pre-rendered backgrounds and detailed characters (and their animations) are all quite extensive and very engrossing, in keeping to the theme and look of the game world. And, just like the game itself, the music is even noir and gothic keeping the atmosphere alive and believable. The interface involves mouse usage, and is different in many aspects from other games of the genre, at least in that era, but it is simple to navigate and use, and it actually happens to be pretty logical.
So, if you like Adventure titles, RPG’s with a twist, or cyberpunk games in general, this is definitely a game worth checking out. It gets frustrating sometimes, and the game is massive, requiring quite a bit of free time, but it’s worth it. It’s certainly not your typical, run-of-the-mill adventure title and a true gem in Adventure & Cyberpunk gaming.
