What a game on both Amiga and C64! Taking on the role of a indoor Football team made up of humans, Lizardmen, and other animal hybrids all vying for a championship cup. Similar to the popular Mutant league series (football obvious comparison). Weapons are thrown onto the pitch, including swords bombs and axes, and players splatter all over the floor with just their heads left; the heads can in turn be picked up and thrown at your opponents.
A good selection of teams was available and among them were the mutants who had special abilities.

I played this game on the Amiga, many years ago and thought it was the best game ever. For the time the graphics were spot on and the game-play fast and exciting; though the learning curve was steep at times due to the hard as nails mutant teams. This only made it more satisfying to overcome them. Between matches the players that had been injured or even killed had to be put back together again to play the next match and seeing the broken players breathing heavily was a nice touch.
Obviously the inspiration for Mutant league football and quite possibly Blood Bowl.
After years of very boring games and under achieving simulations; finally there was an arcade game that delivered... The difficulty was set by choosing

different teams rated by the league. The Mutant teams were often faster and more powerful than the humans who were easily killed or injured but this gave a great challenge for players to overcome. Use of weapons and the skill of your goal keeper were often what kept you in the game; though the opposition would also use weapons and other mutant special moves which included rolling attacks and head-butts.
The overall visage of the game was quite miserable in a dingy stadium of brick and iron; torches gave light from the walls. Absorbed into these surroundings there was a league to win and although, incredibly hard to achieve victory; I found myself trying again, and again.
I would go as far as saying this was a benchmark game that crossed a line in quality unseen previously. Most definitely the best sports game since sensible soccer of that era and equally as good in my honest opinion. Must be played!

What do you get if you take some crazy, twisted vikings and combine them with american football with just a little bit of futuristic science fiction? Brutal Sport Football is the answer! And I must say, as far as I can remember; There was something very entertaining about running around on a pitch, carrying swords, and with a bit of luck, ending up carrying your opponents head in the hand, while it still is the goal to get the ball through the other team and score. If you can handle some blood, and like fast action. This is your game (if you where a "Cannon Fodder"-fan, and have played the christmas special, and thought "killing thoes soccer players really kick ass", you know what I mean :)! Thumbs up: - Fast gameplay, which makes sure you'll never look away, not one second. - The graphics is fairly simple and very smooth, which gives the play-field a good overview. Crusual with hi-tempo games. Thumbs down: - I can't really think of anything, except you might get bored with it, if you play it too often. I gave it 7/10. -Kee Jason
