Game Review (written by Leialefey0610) Added on: 01/19/2007
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. I loved to play it because I loved the idea of time travel. There was the ultimate challenge of traveling everywhere through time to catch the ultimate criminal, Carmen Sandiego. It was challenging to say the least and I still love the game. To this day I have yet to catch Carmen. In fact catching her is my ultimate goal. I’ve learned a lot from the game but I can’t catch the criminal.

The game is more than a challenge based on fun, it is a learning experience. You learn things about history and about how to catch a criminal who is as good at getting away as Carmen Sandiego. The ultimate challenge is to catch her but not everyone does. I couldn’t catch her but I did learn a lot from the game. It’s about following clues. It’s about paying attention. If you don’t pay attention in any game it will come back to haunt you but if you don’t in this one it may cost you the ultimate prize of catching Carmen.

You start as a rookie agent and you will move up in rank as the game moves on. I see

this as the most challenging of the Carmen Sandiego games because of the time travel. You don’t stay in your own time you are constantly going from one place to another and one time to another following clues to find Carmen. In the other games you don’t have the additional challenge of the time travel. You can expect the time travel to make the game extra challenging and add to the learning experience of the game because it does. All the games are amazing. They keep you guessing as to where Carmen could possibly be right up until you figure it out. Other Carmen games make you sort out clues and travel around the world or around Europe. That is educational also, but Germany in 1942 is not the same as Germany in 1992 (for example) and you will have to know your geography as well as your history if you are going to stay on the heels of the criminals in this game. It is very educational in this aspect. When you are given a clue, you will have to know both where and when to go. Knowing only half the answer won't get you very far, so be prepared to use a lot of resources.

It just seems that Carmen is always one step ahead. There’s the other challenge. It always seems that she knows the next move and just when you think you’ve got her, she always seems to escape. She’s the criminal that’s not easy to catch. It’s worth the challenge of going after Carmen because she needs to be caught. I suggest this game to anyone who loves a challenge and loves to learn, or anyone who just loves the thrill of a chase through time.

I hope you do catch Carmen because I will certainly be trying again. Maybe next time I will catch her.

I played this when I was younger as part of a bonus pack that came with another game, and it's still entertaining to me now.
