I remember the 1st time I played this game and I was like "WOH!!!!" . You’re given the choice of aircraft from the afore mention F/A-18 Hornet or the F-16 Falcon both of which looked awesome on the Amiga. The choice of missions was no less impressive and given your choice of where to take off from being it the aircraft carrier or somewhere south of the Golden Gate bridge you just had to love this game. You could even pull a Tom Cruise when taking off from the carrier (i.
e. doing a full roll off the carrier deck)
To some peoples amazement the only downside was the lack of weapons, which we're for the most part only air to air. You’re given the choice of either AIM-9 Sidewinder short range missile or the AIM-120 AMRAAM medium range missile and as a close in weapon system the M61A1 Vulcan gatling gun. Unless you want air to ground missions I’d advise you to stay away from this but it’s a great game nonetheless.
When you start up you’re given the choice of either free flight which you could do pretty much what you like or there was 6 missions to complete ranging from visual confirmation to shooting down defecting aircraft and destroying submersible aircraft carriers of all things!!!
If you take the chance of

free flight you can choose from 4 positions: San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International Airport, San Jose International Airport or the USS Enterprise which is anchored off shore. However you could also start from a position not designated in the game. By pressing zero you could take off from the famous Edwards Air Force Base which as seen its fair share of famous aircraft.
The game was released by the now famous Electronic Arts in the late 1980s to much acclaim. The game was packaged alongside the A500 Amiga which at the time was considered the best machine available and when games like this came out it was understandable why it sold as many copies of the game as it did and just as many Amigas.
Its games like F/A-18 Interceptor that gave rise to many other 3D flight sims on the Amiga including the likes of Gunship 2000, F22 Retaliator and F-16 Combat Pilot to name a few.
I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did.
