Game Review (written by Williamroberts) Added on: 04/04/2007
Essentially this game is pretty much what it says on the package! It's based around the world famous 200 lap Indy 500 race held at the Indianapolis speedway each year.
The gameplay itself is pretty good with you getting to take a car through qualifying (which involves you setting the fastest average speed over 4 laps of the track) and then into the race, rolling start, included.
There is an incredible amount of depth to this game with the user being able to tweak many aspects of the cars.

There is an incredible amount of depth to this game with the user being able to tweak many aspects of the cars. This does create a problem for those of us who would just like to load the game up and play it as you'll never compete with the computer cars, if you just do this.
The options that can be changed include

initially choosing the chassis type and then wing down force, wheel stagger (to allow for the banking), tire pressures, and turbo output. Many of these can also be changed during the race too, which is a nice touch and these things do really make a difference to the race. It is also nice that the same settings won't work for every chassis.
The graphics are also pretty good from a game going this far back and you also get damage thrown in too. In fact damage is something that is particularly realistic as you only have to slightly catch the wall or another car to see your wheel fly off and your race over - something that is particularly annoying when you've spent hours racing!! As mentioned above however the difficulty level can be altered and on the lower difficulty levels there is no damage and no general yellow flags during the race.
One final nice touch is that you always have the option of driving the car backwards around the circuit and causing absolute carnage either with damage off to cause major pileups or with it on to see how many cars you can take out in one go!!
All in all, for fans of the Indy 500, this is a great game.
