This game is the best two person fighter ever. It has the best mix of fighters and moves, and probably the best gameplay. This was as good as a 2d fighter ever got, and one of the last great games before 3d came out and ruined it. One of the best things about this game is that it still has a follow able pace, yet it's really fast. That is, there aren't any asinine twenty minute combos like in Killer Instinct. Yet it is still a white knuckle action fest.
The bosses are also really cool. Sagat has moves like that of the main fighters Ryu and Ken, but yet slightly different, it's a nice contrast.
There are a lot of different things that link the fighters to one another, which other games didn't do quite as much, there were some links between the fighters in Mortal Kombat, but it was far more superficial. Plus the cartoonish graphics of this game are really good. The crowds react, boxes break, but it looks like you are on Saturday morning TV. They also have mini-games like breaking boxes and barrels, or my favorite smashing a car. No other game has that. Although in Mortal Kombat 2, if you beat the other player fifty straight times in a two
player game you get to play pong. That's pretty cool.
Later Street Fighter installments came out, but none were quite as fun as the original, except for Street Fighter 2 turbo. That game was virtually identical to this one, only you could play as all the bosses and turn up the speed. Also, no other game had quite as fun of music as this one, alt least in the fighting genre. Rpgs often have good music. The mix of characters in this game is also very intriguing, there are lots of options about who to play. The controls are very easy to understand, and even the most complicated super moves aren't that hard to figure out. The difficulty of the game isn't extreme, you should be able to beat the boss in a week or so, but it can be frustrating, and that's a good thing. The backgrounds are fun, what with people cheering you on and the little details, like blanca's village and the airport base. The graphics were great, but I wish there was more dialogue. Like people talking with their mouths and tongues, you can't forget tongues.
