Asteroids is the greatest game made. The graphics are way below today’s standards, but that doesn't matter. The ease of the game is what draws you in. One minute you are just shooting the blotchy asteroids to smaller blotches and then your little triangle star ship with your square missiles is being overtaken by the asteroids. before you know what happened or where the time has gone, you find yourself starving because you haven't eaten in three days but you just can't get off the chair long enough to eat.
I first was introduced to asteroids on the old Atari 2600 system. If I remember correctly, I think it came with pacman. I played that forever until I got asteroids. I find myself playing asteroids know on the Atari 2600 I set up for my kids in the basement of my house. This game has something about it, that I can't get out of my mind. Maybe it is the dot music or the sound effects, that are in the game, but I can't put it down. I have the game installed on my laptop and my desktop. I find myself playing it from time to time, while I am supposed to be doing something else.
My kids have now gotten to the
point, where they have started playing some of the older games and they haven't figured out, quite how to play some of the ones, that you have to do a lot of moving. The cool thing about this game is, that you can either fly around (I don't recommend) or just stay put in one spot and either press the space bar. Or you can just hit the little red button (Atari 2600) and get far in the game. It became a point of trying to beat my old score every time I played.
My wife didn't do much in gaming but play pacman (Atari) or play Mario brothers on the Nintendo. I got her to sit down and try asteroids one day, and a week later I had to remind her, that she needed to get up and help clean the house. She isn't that bad since the kids came.
In closing I would recommend this game to anyone how loves the old retro games.
