Quest for Tires brings me back to my youth when computer games were simple yet still frustrating. In this game you are basically a caveman moving in the same direction. You mode of transportation is a unicycle made out of rock. It starts off pretty simply, by having to jump over holes in the ground. If you don’t jump, you fall, and you lose a man. You get 5 men for the game.
The next level just comes as your go along.

The next level just comes as your go along. You now have to jump over logs and duck trees. Don’t want to hit your head on a branch sticking out. Also in this next level you speed increases. Each level after your speed will increase, unless you
go up hills. You have to jump more often as the game goes. The whole point of the game is to save your girl friend. This sometimes seems a long way, but I have passed it a few times now.
The game gets tricky when you come across one of the ogres. He stands on one side of a pond and you have to cross when his club is up. Sounds simple except that you have to jump on turtle shells that bob up and down as your crossing. If you land on a turtle and wait too long, you sink and lose a caveman. Starting in the 4th level or phase, you start getting items coming at you that you have to jump. Timing is everything, because you are still jumping over holes and ducking while these things (rocks usually) are coming towards you.
There is no strategy in this game, rather you just have to play it to get good. The main idea is not to react too quickly. Many times you have to be patient and wait for moment right before to either jump or duck. This gets more prevalent as the game wears on and your speed picks up.
The graphics I thought were quite decent for the Commodore 64, but the concept of the game is simple and fascinating and that is what I remember.
All in all, very nice Commodore 64 game. Really worth a try.
