Game Review (written by Turkey_ni) Added on: 10/27/2008
This is a game that I played originally as a kid on the Commodore 64 and is based on the popular game show that appeared on Going Live in the early 90s in the UK. Of course, like many successful game shows of its time it was robbed from Nick Studios in the US, although with the often hilarious Peter Simon at the helm, I personally believe that the UK version was better.

The gameplay is simple: there are two teams of two characters - the yellow and the red team.
They first answer general knowledge questions for 10 points each, however the team "in play" may choose to "Dare" their opponents to answer for double the points if they don't know the answer themselves or don't think that their opponents will know the answer. The opposition may then choose to answer at the risk of giving away 20 points, or may "Double Dare" the question back to the first team. It is then up to the first team to answer the question for 40 points (an incorrect answer losing them 40), or to take on one of the infamous physical challenges, which in the DOS game consist of a memory game, a sliding puzzle and the towers of Hanoi - not quite as fun (or messy) as the actual show then...

After
Double Dare
a while (approximately five minutes) of answering questions and performing physical challenges (I would advise avoiding the sliding puzzle!!), the show changes its format to Double Double Dare where all of the points are doubled to 20,40 and 80 respectively. Another 5 minutes of questions and challenges then ensues, and the team with the most points at the end of this round progresses to compete in the infamous Assault Course (which is of course full of gunge!!).

This is the most challenging part of the game, where the aim is to collect the prize flags and complete all 8 obstacles before the time runs out. Some of these are particularly difficult, especially with various conveyor belts and gunge tanks getting in the way. If you do complete the course in the specified time limit you win the super duper prizes (prizes not really available...)!!

All in all, this is an excellent game but better played with a friend. It will evoke the memories of the original show, albeit slightly less messy and fun as the real thing. At least you won't get in trouble with your mother for messing up the hosue.
