Ah, Elevator Action! I remember playing the arcade version of this at Disneyland back in the 80’s when I was a kid. What was really cool about this game back then, was that you were able to interact with the environment to a certain degree; you could shoot out lights and the building would go dark, you could control the direction of the elevator, and go in mysterious doors – hey that is more than you can do in the interior scenes of Grand Theft Auto!
At the beginning of the game, your character get into a multi-level building (sorry ladies, your character is always male).
The goal is to collect secret documents while taking out the evil-doers. You must make it to the lowest level of the building where the car is waiting for you.
As you might have guessed, the gameplay gets more difficult as you progress down through the building. To keep things interesting, there are walls and other obstacles that you must use multiple elevators to get around. Bored of elevators? Don’t worry, there are escalators, too.
When I was a kid, I don’t think I ever passed a single level of this game successfully, and quarters were a lot of money back then. However, I have since rectified this and I am happy to say that I have made it to the waiting car, at least on the first
level. This game has everything you could want – spies, guns, secret doors, falling lights, and, yes, elevators. This game held my attention for a very long time in the arcade and probably was responsible for a few sore fingers back in the day. But it was worth it for the introduction to the dangerous world of espionage.
This is a fun spy game that I can only imagine was partially influenced by the Cold War. Despite its simple interface, this is still a challenging and fun game. This is a true classic. Do not miss this exciting and fun game.
