Game Review (written by Gjdarlington) Added on: 05/15/2007
The game football director takes me back many years. Playing this game for hours on end trying to get the ultimate 9 9 9 9, staying up every night (even school nights) and annoying my folks cause I would not go to bed! (For those of you familiar with the game you will understand!) for those who are not though, I will start at the beginning.
The game loads and you are the expected to chose a team to manage, don’t expect to be able to manage the ‘Big Guns’ at this stage though, you are only allowed to manage the smaller, lesser teams from the lower divisions.

The game loads and you are the expected to chose a team to manage, don’t expect to be able to manage the ‘Big Guns’ at this stage though, you are only allowed to manage the smaller, lesser teams from the lower divisions. Did not really matter which team you chose, the computer would randomly select your squad, usually with

rubbish players, but you always had money in the bank to start you off with.
You pitted your wits in the league against the other teams, who were generally as bad as you, and hoped to move up through the divisions whilst adding those influential players to your team, and booting out the old, rubbish players along the way. To actually get anywhere with this game you generally had to borrow money from the bank in order to secure those better players and ensure some sort of success, without this, generally you would struggle, however it was possible to do, despite it being more tricky, kind of like playing on ‘Expert’ setting instead of novice!
Your players would be rated 1 to 9I (I meaning International). The team formation was automatically selected as a standard 4-3-3 and depending on the number of players within each position at certain player ratings, the average would be taken for each position, making your team ratings split into, Goalkeeper, Defence, Midfield and Attack.
You could look at your opponents team stats and they would be broken down into position so you could see what you were up against, however there was no extra tactical detail than this – just a very basic, honest Football Management game. The overall aim of the game is like many other Football Management games, to get into the top flight and win the league.
As I stated at the top, this in it’s time was a brilliant, addictive game, that had me, any many friends alike hooked for hours on end. Football games have moved on, but all have retained the basic functions that we saw in the original management games such as Football Director.

Almost 20 years have passed by since the last time I enjoyed this great simulation! Dozens of hours spent in front of my old green monitor and my favourite CBM64!

I loved this Game to bits, many sleepless Nights and it was such a thrill to get the team to the Top Flight even if it meant going straight back down again the following Season.

Fabulously addictive strategy game. Again agreed with the other comments, spent night upon night on this fantastic game.

Very addictive, spent hours on it as a kid. I used to cheat if I lost the first game of the season and start the game again because you tended to go on a run of defeats.
