I remember getting this as a young lad and thinking it was revolutionary in game style. Being able to control the life of a young footballer through his career and given the chance to score his goals. Many hours were spent trying new tactics i.e. should I start with a top team and get loads of money or start at the bottom and try and get my team promoted.
The monopoly style chance cards added to the risk of it all and hours would be consumed by this game.

spectrum I had it.
For those of you interested I found the best tactic to be start with a top team, although you will barely be able to afford to play your money will pile up due to their good wages. Then when you transfer to a low team, you will have enough money to score plenty of goals for a lowly side and should find yourself back with a top team in 2 - 3 seasons.
The follow up to this game was good and had little improvements but the tactical style in which you had to score your goals in it some what took away from the overall gameplay and although I would advise any retro gamer to take a look at both, the first id definitely the superior game of the two. Gremlin were masters of this style of game back in the late 80's to early 90's and it surprises me that no one else has successfully followed this recipe of first person management as successfully and as addictively although a few have tried such as liberogrande on the ps1 and newer attempts such as soccer life on the ps2 but none grab the imagination and concentration as this did. maybe its because we have come to expect more from our newer more advanced gaming units now.
But regardless of that, it is always good to put on our rose tinted specs and descend back into 1989 and play a classic like this, so dust down your kempston joysticks and get this downloaded folks, I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
