Gauntlet 2 carries on where the first one left off. You get to choose between four classes: Barbarian, Magician, Elf and Amazon. Go through the dungeons and kill stuff! As you get higher in levels, more challenges await you, even death!
This game is great if you have two players, because if one player dies, the other can "put another quarter" in the machine and keep going! Each class has it's strengths and weaknesses. Potions can be collected and used. Magician can kill anything on the screen, while barbarians can only kill death.
Barbarians throw axes, elves shoot bows, magicians throw fireballs, and amazons shot swords. Some of the higher levels have invisible walls and teleports and around-the-world sort of effects. Your health will decrease as time goes on, so be sure to eat or move quickly before you starve to death!
Be careful where you shoot though, because you can destroy food laying on the ground... it never really occurred to me that food lying on the ground of a dungeon would be good to eat, but oh well. It’s the trick. Picking up gold helps too, but only with the score. High score is really the goal of the game, but isn't that the point of all of
those old school games. They tried to update the game and put it in 3-D. It was kind of cool, but it really lost the feel of the old game. You can also kill almost all of the monsters by running in to them, but don't try it with the magician, what are you going to do pimp-slap them?
Use a barbarian if you’re going to do that. You got a friggin' axe! Kill some goblins with it! Ghosts will disappear when they hit you, kind of like they possess you or something... anyway they take health away, and you really can't use hand to hand combat on them so throw a GD axe or sword at them, that'll do the trick nicely. All these monsters come out of these monster generator things that take a few hits to kill.
This game is great. I have nothing else to tell you. Try it!
