GI Joe is a great game that I always loved to play. It has the old music that can get you pumped up to fight any terrorist organization. The graphics are what you would probably expect out of an early Commodore 64 game. But, the game play does not suffer. Yoiu have a choice of one of two characters. You can play Cobra or GI Joe. It is a one or two player game. Ace flies the F-14 Tomcat. Clutch drives the jeep. Wild Bill flies the helicopter.
There are several methods of play, ranging from single to multiplayer, and also a one on one versus mode for some missions. And In the one on one fighting mode you get the 8 characters to choose from: Snake eyes, Scarlet, Barbecue, Rock and Roll, Roadblock, Lady Jay, Flint, and Duke.
Cobra vehicle mission can be played with the Hiss, which is a tank, the Rattler which is like an A-10 warthog, a helicopter, and jeep. You also (in one on one mode) get the choice of 8 characters. Cobra Commander, Destro, Storm shadow, Fire Fly, The Barronise, Zartan, a cobra trooper, and another guy whose name slips my memory.
The way you tell if a mission is vehicle
or one on one is the symbol on the map. A star is a one on one mission and an oval shaped symbol is a vehicle mission. On vehicle missions it is one player. And it takes two controllers. One controller to fire and drive the vehicle. And the other to control the range of the weapon.
In vehicle missions the tank and jeep are the easiest to use. You have enough control to stop and line up to shoot other tanks and destroy radar and missile bases. The main objective is to destroy the other group’s base. Typically you have to search for it. The jet pilots have to watch out for missile, they will shoot you down. If you lose a vehicle or person you can not use them again they are dead. So be careful.
Overall the game still rocks. Thank god there is a warp on the emulators, because this game has a long, very long, load time. I remember waiting forever for this game to load. But it is worth the download to check out you might find yourself playing for hours on end for this one. I know I did. And the music will keep you going in this one, the best GI Joe game ever.
