One of the biggest competitors of Super Mario Brothers would have to be The Giana Sisters, which was made into three versions. With the game being very similar to Super Mario Brothers you may love the experience especially if you enjoyed any Mario game ever designed.
The game has been done with the format of a left to right side scrolling where you will be viewing it from the side. There are several items that you will be collecting throughout the levels and many more that you will be avoiding.
The Giana Sisters has two characters to play that consist of Giana and Maria. You will take on the roll of Giana and if you have someone playing along with you they will take on the role of Maria. The game will begin where your character Giana is dreaming and then is taken to an unknown world that is filled with unreal enemies. To escape this unknown world you must discover the magical diamond. Once you have found this diamond you will then be taken back into the world of reality.
Usually you will see Giana in the centre of the screen with the enemy creatures in front of you. In the game you will see that blocks are creating a
platform like design for you to take part in. In the game you will see blocks that have a star upon them. Use your head and break open those special boxes to uncover new skills and weapons for your use. One of the very first rewards you uncover will be a really neat hair for Giana that will allow you to break open bricks. This will come in handy if you find yourself lost. There has been the inclusion of several items that will assist in destroying your enemies such as a bomb.
Each level has to be completed in a certain amount of time. If you are unable to complete the level in the time period given you will automatically lose a life. You are given a total of three lives to start off but throughout the levels you can earn more.
Throughout the game you will encounter many traps that can be fatal. Some of these items consist of spikes, fire pits, water pools, and holes. Some of these traps may assist you, but others can hurt you. With a total of 32 levels you can only imagine how complicated the final levels will become.
Now even though the game is quite similar to Super Mario Brothers you will still get that new game feel with The Giana Sisters. There is so much included into the game and the fact that you are now taking on a female role all those female gamers are getting the respect of the gaming world that is needed.
