Game Review (written by Newagehippie) Added on: 11/29/2006
I last played this game on the commodore 64 and used to be addicted to it. After searching around for a while I found this download and its still as addictive as ever.
From the moment that legendary music began I felt transported back to my childhood and then I’m off thought the jungle with nothing, but a flying pixel to protect me. The graphics are outdated as you would expect on a c64 game, but the overall gameplay is incredible. The enemy will try to attack you with their tanks however you will also discover you have your own tanks scattered about the game.

This game is best played multiplayer with a friend for full effect this form of play builds strong rivalry and

you will be playing the game for hours on end trying to complete it working together. The hardest part of this game is gaining overall control of the player, as its a vertical scroller you cannot get past the edge of the screen and can easily find yourself stuck behind a bush or water at first, but you soon get over that after a few plays.
DO NOT ATTEMPT to run into the game and shoot everything and everyone at once, this is not how ikari works. You must carefully think about how you move about the game and which enemies you shoot in which order, if you do not you will end up running out of ammo, yes you heard this game gives you a limited amount of ammo for your gun and a couple of grenades. So you must be thinking how can I complete it with only a set amount of ammo. Keep your eyes peeled as there are ammo crates about however sometimes they can be pretty hard to spot or put in areas which will alter your gameplay, such as in the middle of water (which slows you down, and prevents the use of tanks). The enemy do hide behind certain objects (mainly bushes and ruins) to make your life harder, they have sophisticated (for the c64) AI and this is the reason you have to think your moves through carefully before making them.
Overall the game is fun and addictive, keeping you playing for hours on end, it makes you start all over again if you die and the worst part is you will find yourselves jumping straight in again spending another 4hours playing.
Well worth playing, and a million times better than its better known countapart Commando.
Tech wise use CCS64 or VICE for this game and be sure to play it full screen.

A conversion of the arcade game, Ikari Warriors is a vertically scrolling action game. One or two players fight their way through a variety of terrain, such as jungles, rivers, and ruins. Along the way different weapons can be found, including machine guns, grenades, and rocket launchers.
