Leisure Suit Leo II: The Secret of Maniac Island was developed by Softworks in 1996. It is a text adventure game. It brings back memories of cracking into games that I was too young to play. This particular game has the standard what is your age and answer these questions to prove it. Unfortunately, because it is a German game even if you are old enough, you need to know a variety of questions about German culture as well as American in order to play (or be a really good guesser).
It is similar to the Leisure Suit Larry series.
In Leisure Suit Leo 2, you are Leo, without a wife, without a friend on the earth, and you must find a way through the lonely, hard world. The graphics consist of a picture displayed at the top of the page when you enter a new scene. The sound is solely background music that also changes with each scene. All of the entertainment comes from reading the story and interacting with it. You begin outside your ex-wife’s home desiring either to be with her again on the sunny side of life, or to travel north where you think you may find your new life. Of course, Erotic Studios is also north. You must explore your environment and
solve puzzles to advance through Leo’s life.
You have at your disposal a variety of commands to choose from when you hit your fire key: “open”, “move”, “turn on”, “examine”, “use”, “combine”, “give”, “take”, “discard”, “talk to”, “look around”, and “walk to”. “Open” opens the selected item, “turn on” turns a selected item on, “examine” tells you about an item, “use” uses an item, “combine” combines two selected items, “give” gives and items, “take” takes and item, “discard” discards an item, “talk to “ will talk to people but gives a tart remark for items, “look around” basically gives you the initial assessment you receive when you move to a new scene (as does “read info text”), “walk to” gives you a new direction (in other words a new scene) that you travel to, and “move” displays a list of your inventory and objects within view that you can move toward.
If you like games that allow you to explore things and solve puzzles and don’t mind an adult theme, you will like this game. However, do not start playing it just because it contains the adult themes and humor. It is not easy to play because you are placed in the environment and need to figure out everything.
