Game Review (written by Mannhoodd) Added on: 10/26/2006
Math Blaster is a fun way to learn different styles of math. The original math blaster, designed for the apple mac plus back in the 80's (1985 to be exact on the release date), was similar to the "math blasters" of the 90's and today. It is entirely black and white, unfortunately, but still has great value for learning. The name "math blaster" came from the final part of the game, in which the player "blasts" his or her way to the right numbers. It was originally released on a blue 700k diskette.

There are several difficulties for this game. Many younger children may choose to only do addition or subtraction. Learning can make it very encouraging to younger children. Multiplication and division are also choices, as
Math BlasterMath Blaster
is the "combo" choice, where all four are combined together. There are also varying degrees of difficulty. Obviously, two plus two is much simpler than seventy plus twenty-three. The most difficult levels are appropriate for advanced students.
The game, created by davidson, was followed by a great many sequels including "Math Blaster: in search of Spot" and "Math Blaster: the lost city". In both of these versions, two new characters appear in addition to blasternaut. They are Galactic Control (GC) and Spot. Spot is originally a blue robot and GC is a tall female. Both of these were released on CD-ROM in the 90's. In search of spot was two dimensional and involved a few simple movies. A very high score could be as much as forty thousand. In "the lost city", an attempt was made to make it 3D, although it is rather poor quality. The blaster series also included many other titles, including reading blaster and algebra blaster. Science blaster was released in 1996, but was not nearly as successful, probably due to the fact that knowledge adventure now owned and controlled the series, rather than davidson.
In the original math blaster, there was some extremely simple music (but it was fun to listen to at the time).
For anyone with further questions about the math blaster series, check wikipedia or google and see what you can find. 20 years later it is still a fantastic way for children of all generations and of all ages to learn how to do mathematics.
