Game Review (written by Zablo) Added on: 01/09/2007
Ah, monopoly what more can you say? It's the classic board game transformed into an electronic form. Of course it's fun, it's been around for years, your grandparents had fun with it, your parents had fun with it, your kids will have fun with it. Now as for the computer game version of monopoly, there does seem to be a little lacking in this game. Obviously this sucker was made a few years ago as you can tell by the less than stellar graphics.
All the greens and blacks get to be a little bit too much. And the characters?
Of course everyone loves their own piece, whether it be the dog, the horse, the sports car, the battleship, or even the iron. But these graphics definitely lose something in the translation from tiny metal pieces into pixels bytes. However, if nothing else the computer version of monopoly definitely teaches you the proper way to play. You may know what I'm talking about if you've ever played the board game with a large number of friends and or relatives.
Everybody was raised using different rules, and no one truly knows how much money you're supposed to get at the beginning of the game,
Monopoly
or whether all your money goes into the middle of the pot when you pay taxes etc. and then gets taken out by the person who lands on free parking. (That could be my own rule) So if you want a nice fair game of monopoly without crazy uncle Larry trying to cheat by taking money out of the bank, or your pal ripping you off by not giving you that 200$ for passing go then this is the way to go. Also, the computer game could work if your laptop lasts for hours and you're on a boring flight. However, barring these scenarios, I would suggest just getting the actual board game. You'll spend more time with real people rather than cursing out the digitized dog on your computer screen.
All in all monopoly is a classic game but if something isn’t broken then why fix it. So if you need to get your monopoly fix look no further than your local games store. However, if you're sitting around bored, alone, and joining for some of that old school fun you used to get when everyone gathered in the den for some good old fashioned fun, then this is probably the next best substitution.
