Secret of the Silver Blades is a continuation of the "Golden Box" Series. This series was owned by my best friend back in the day and I remember countless hours during sleepovers with sodas, chips, and pretzels. As we played deep into the night, we enjoyed creating characters and exploring the now seemingly primitive RPG landscape.
Without games like this, current RPG core games such as Wow or Ever quest or Guild Wars would not be possible. This game a long with others for early Macs and also for NES and Sega genesis allowed the creativity and imaginations of many people to blossom.
This game gives the players chances to create Warriors, Magic Users, Clerics, Thief’s, etc to take on all monsters in the game. Like many RPGs you level your characters to gain access to more complex and powerful spells and abilities that can compete with more complex and powerful enemies. It seems like yesterday me and my friend were loading in the discs on his ancient MAC to enter the world of AD&D. This game along with the others in the Golden Box series was very fun and paved the way for RPGs to come.
With character creation this game started to allow customizations such as choosing colors, weapons, and shields combinations that characters could display on the user interface of the game. This allows
the player to choose what color combos they would like for their character to have in the game, and also it allows for further personalization of the actual characters. This feature was great because it allows players to differentiate between party members and also to give each character a style or personality.
Overall I would say you could keep yourself occupied for a very long time with this game and also the other games in the series and you don't have to put up with the annoying old school computers that these classic games were played on. Like I mentioned above without these classic Role Playing Games, extremely complex games like WOW would not be possible and also the huge fan bases for these complex online and offline games draw would not be possible. Secret of the Silver Blades along with other titles from the gold box series (like pools of darkness, curse of the azure bonds) were pioneer games in the industry. Great Game!
