Stunt car racer was a revolution in racing game design and took a new twist to the racing game genres on the Amiga. The game has a single player campaign mode where you race though the tracks against the computer, a practice mode and a 2 player link mode. First of all you can select the track you wanted to race and see it in detail which was a first for me back then. Stunt car has many tracks to choose from ranging from beginner to expert.
The game its self is lots of fun, you start by getting lowered onto a track that’s 100 foot in the air!! Then you have to race over big jumps, round tight corners, humps and dips with out falling off and wrecking your car. Tracks are named give you a hint of what’s ahead and to let you know what you were getting yourself into. For example two being BIG Dipper where you have to speed up a massive ramp and then free fall down the other side and off the track if you don't get it lined up right lol.
Stepping Stones which are 3 mini ramps where you have to jump from one ramp to the other, getting your speed
right is the only way across otherwise you fall between them and off the track, quite tricky. The games physics are very good for the time with the wheels bouncing up and down with cracking and grinding sounds depending on how hard you throw it round the track. There is a wreck indicator on the top of the screen resembling a long crack in the roof showing you how much damage your have, total the meter and the car comes to a grinding halt.
The tracks them self’s are well designed and lots of fun the race round. Some of the bigger jumps you have to get your speed right so 1) you make it to the other side and 2) you don't over shoot your landing zone so lots of practice is needed at first but is well worth it when you start doing perfect landings with minimal damage. Another fun part of the game is the boost feature which lets you do sudden bursts of power resulting in flames out of the exhaust pipes when you need to get some speed quick, helpful when coming off a corner to make a jump.
You make you can get some serious air in then game! (o: One feature the game has 2 player over a serial cable where you and a friend could go head to head round the track. This really was a next generation game for the Amiga and a far cry from the Lotus racing games of the time, highly recommended to anyone wanting a laugh and one of my all time best games for the Amiga. Enjoy.
