Thrust is a great game - one of my favourites - if not my favourite.
The object of the game is to fly your space-craft through an underground maze, pick up an orb and carry it back to the surface. Sounds easy - except:
- You have to avoid enemy fire
- You have limited fuel
- The spacecraft is fairly difficult to control - it has rotate left/right and thrust controls - similar to "Asteroids", only with gravity constantly pulling you down.
- You pick up the orb on the end of a "rope". The orb then swings like a weighty pendulum beneath you, making control even harder.
If you have the skills, you can also try to destroy the planet by blowing up the nuclear reactor buried deep in the maze. If you do this, then it is a mad race to the surface before the whole thing goes up.
During the game, you are able to refuel by floating above fuel pods and pressing space. This also activates your shield which stops enemy bullets hitting you. You can also shoot at enemy installations, but this only temporarily disables them, rather than destroying them.
If you reach the final level, then you repeat the process - only with gravity inverted - you are
constantly pulled upward!
The difficulty level often put off new players, but once mastered, it is a very playable game.
Only downside is that there aren't enough levels!
