Game Review (written by Mysticeye) Added on: 01/24/2008
Uridium is an all time favorite of mine. I don’t know how Andrew Braybrook did it, but the colors he got out of the c64 were really amazing and in this installment there are even more colors than in the first release.
Basically the aim of the game is to make it from one side of a super spaceship (a 'Dreadnought') to another. Land on the runway, and then blow it up.
You fly your rather nifty little ship over the surface of the dreadnought, avoiding any jutting out aerials, or barriers, and shooting everything that can be shot on the dreadnought surface.

You will be attacked by fleets of fighters. And if you linger too long near a mine shaft... a homing mine

will chase you. You can flip your manta class fighter on its side (a nice trick for squeezing thru narrow gaps) but you have to go at a slightly faster speed to do this. Also a great feature is when you change direction, just for half a second, your fighter also can change height, useful for dodging an imminent mine. Once landed, you have a hit or miss option, press the button at the right time and you score more points.
The dreadnought then explodes as you fly over it, and it’s onto the next level.
Ultra smooth scrolling and super rich colors make this game a classic, impressive even today.
The author Andrew Braybrook often toyed with 'metallic look' games. Check out paradroid, and morpheus also on the c64.
All Braybrook’s games are always slick, well produced affairs. If you like uridium I would advice you to give it a go, even if just for extra levels, but also the graphics are richer.
