This was an addicting game back in the early 90s. Good options on creating random scenarios based on terrain type. You can select the piece of water, land, forest, etc and make up random scenarios. Also included in the random scenarios are number of opponents and their skill level. This allows you to make the game as short/long or easy/hard.
Loved the simple army characters like dragons, griffins, wizards, unicorns, elephants, etc. Pretty random and unexpected to see the different match-ups possible.
Its neat how the battles are short and a little unexpected at times. Too bad that you can kind of cheat by saving the game just before each battle. I guess the game is not that hard where you need to save each time but it helps move the game along.
The quests from the temples are interesting and allow some variety in each campaign. I enjoy making the heroes stronger through experience and blessings, then teaming up with some of the fiercest combatants to bring terror to neighboring tribes.
Another good feature of the game is the option that allows you to name each hero, city, and competitor. It's great how you can incorporate random historic characters and play against them. I like to
name the heroes using friends of mine making the whole game more personal. The cities are named after cities I've traveled to. Sometimes I use the characters and cities of the books I'm reading. Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord or the Rings, etc all has fantasy characters I can use for some scenarios.
This was the father of the Warcraft type games which is huge now, but I liked the simplicity of these old games where you can pick it up for a weekend or few days and finish it all. So, try it. Its worth you time.
