Game Review (written by Omegalion) Added on: 11/13/2006
One of my all times favorite series of games were the Epyx "Games" series. Winter games were no exception, as I spent many hours playing this game. It was addictive, battling to try and win the gold for your country. With numerous events, it was always a challenge to get as many medals as you could.
You get to start off filling out your name, and selecting a country to represent. The national anthem for that country plays, and you get into the Olympic spirit.

You can have numerous competitors, so you can have a few friends competing at the same time. The more the merrier. Once everyone has picked their name and country, it is off to the stadium.

Opening Ceremonies, complete with a torch run, The Olympic style music plays in the background, as the main fire is lit. Off to completion you go. Get ready to have some fun.
With a lot of fun events, you can be entertained for a long time. One of my personal favorites is the bobsled. It is always a blast trying to beat your personal best time, pushing the sled to its limits, without spilling it over. You try different paths down the course, ridding high on the edges, or trying to keep it low, and build up higher speeds. It can be tricky, but always fun.
Hot Dog is another of my favorites. This Skiing Aerials event has you athlete doing tricks in the air, and trying to impress the judges, without crashing to the ground below. I used to be able to nail this event every time, with some neat flips on tricks. If you do it right, you can grab perfect 10s from the judges. Make sure to make your moves clean, and nail the landing.
Along with Hot Dog was the traditional Ski Jump. Get your skier down the ramp the best you can, and hit the button as close to the bottom as you can. It can be tricky to get your flying skier into a good position for flight and landing, but after practice you get good. Distance plus style points are the key to this event. Once you land, the crown reaction will give you a good idea of how you did.
Other events include speed skating, were you get you controller into a back and forth rhythm to get your skater around the track. Biathlon can be tricky, as you try to hit the quick moving targets, the faster you get around the track. There is also Figure Skating.
All in all, I always enjoyed playing this game, along with the Summer Games, and World Games.

I loved this game - the best event was the skiing and shooting event - and I hated hearing the heart beat, also I LOVED the figure skate the music was the best.

The opening of the game with 'real' Olympic music gave me a chill and I had to win as many points as possible. It was very nice playing the shooting in the snow (with real heartbeat, I remember). Over all it was a tough game to win!

Growing up in Wisconsin, Winter Games was always a blast for me as a kid. It’s great that it’s still available now, and just as fun as I remember it.
