Wonder Boy is a great arcade format game where you will be taking the part of the character known as Tom Tom. The character is the resemblance of a caveman who has a girlfriend, Tanya, which has been caught by a monster. You as the player must rescue your girlfriend before it is too late.
You will be guiding your character through nine different areas, each having four levels plus some hidden levels. To further along in the game you must collects every single one of the dolls that resembles your girlfriend, which have been hidden through every level.
Each of the level’s sceneries vary, some examples of the scenery are forest, hills, oceans, caves and many more. Each level runs with a screen scrolling aspect from the left to the right with some movement vertically.
Some of the items that you will have the use of are a stone hammer, a skateboard, and temporary protection. With the stone hammer you will have the ability to throw it at your enemies to kill them. The skateboard allows you to travel through the levels faster and the ability to survive one attack from an enemy. The temporary protection is by a fairy that allows you to destroy any enemies that walk into your path just by walking into them. You will discover these
items by breaking open eggs throughout the levels. There is a downside as well to the breaking of the eggs. Some contain items that will hurt you instead of assisting you. There is an easy way to differ the good eggs and bad eggs apart, the good eggs are entirely white as the bad eggs have red spots on them.
On top of trying to keep yourself alive by avoiding contact with enemies you will also have to collect fruit to keep your vitality levels up. The vitality meter will be constantly running down so it’s best to keep an eye on your vitality meter.
The graphics in this game are true to the arcade style. They have been reconverted from the arcade version with just a little added boost to the colours. There is a lot of detail when it comes to each and every level, which is a great-added bonus to the game features. Overall the game design is phenomenal.
Wonder Boy is not too difficult of a game. There are not too many tasks you are attempting to do at once. After you’ve played the game for a little bit you will get the hang of things and be destroying your enemies faster than you could imagine. This game is a very fun and exciting game that all ages could enjoy. If you do love to play those adventurous arcade games then Wonder Boy would be awesome for you to try. There are so many great features to this game that there is no possible way you won’t love it.
