Game Review (written by Imthuman) Added on: 12/19/2006
I remember playing this game on my old Atari. I got a hand-me-down in the mid 90's. This game was included and my brother and I would play it for hours. I don't know what happened to that Atari or that game so I am glad I found this website. The funny thing is that it is pretty difficult. Maybe it was just my controller, or maybe I just suck. It was fun playing and I thought the graphics were amazing for its time.
I would play for such a long time, but I could not get very far. Hopefully, now, I can get much further than before. I think it's sad on my part that I can't do well on a game 20 years old. I'm good at so many other more "difficult" games, but this game always got me. Looking back on it, I think it is much more difficult than many other flying games (are there any still made?).
I liked the many differently targets available rather than shooting at aliens that all look the same. I even liked this game more than the beloved Mario bros. series. That game just seemed too slow. The fast pace of Xevious kept me interested. The

sound, of course, compared to now is nothing great, but what game's is from then? It was just enough to know what you are accomplishing. As opposed to the old pitfall where every sound was so similar. Xevious had depth to its development. It had great graphics, good sound; it was difficult so you didn't beat it in thirty minutes. Speaking of, I can beat all three Mario’s in at least 30 minutes. I wish I could beat Xevoius in that time. I guess it helps if you have warp stages.
This had to be my favourite game on the Atari I owned and probably one of my favourite games of all time. I just loved playing it. I don't really know why I loved it so much. I can imagine because I could not beat it. I figure if I beat the game I would not enjoy it as much. All the fun would be gone. When I play it now, i am on a mission, and I have to beat the game or else I failed. I am sure that sounds weird for some, but it is the way I feel. I love this game and will play over and over again. I am just not bored with it. If i beat it, it probably will not be as much fun, but hey, I got it for free. It was like having free fun.
