Game Review (written by Davido) Added on: 01/09/2007
Metal and Lace: The Battle of the Robo-Babes is a classic game despite its many flaws. Choppy graphics in the fight scenes make it a bit hard to control and the opponents at times can be very extreme. The whole bar scene in between fights can grow a little old rather quickly, but I think that it is better than Metal and Lace 2 where you just go right between fight without any sort of break.
To me this game had a very RPG sort of feel because of the intermission at the bar. Also making it feel sort of like an RPG is the power ups that you can purchase for you mech. Even they are very limited as far as the effect and overall number that you can actually purchase, it still makes it more interesting to be able to customize you machine. Also making it better than Metal and Lace 2 in my opinion is the fact that there are quite a few selectable bots that you can purchase at the "robot shop".
The most annoying aspect of this game aside from the choppy graphics is the lack of an in game help system. It took me quite a while to even figure out where the mech store was. I was just clicking on everything in the bar to no avail. Everyone kept telling me that I needed to buy a mech before I could compete, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out where to go. Finally by sheer luck I happened to click my mouse in the far upper left of the screen and low and behold there was the mech shop.
The presence of the two player game (via the two gentlemen sitting at the table) also allows you to take a break and even earn some much needed money if you get you butt kicked too much by the robo-babes. Another added bonus of the game is that if you beat your opponents enough you get to see some hentai nudity.
In summation, this game in my opinion had great potential that was never fully realized. I believe this is in part to the time frame in which it was programmed. I find it very hard to believe that Megatech published this game after I've seen such great hits as Cobra Mission, Knights of Xentar, and Mad Paradox come from them. All in all if I had to rate this game on a scale of one to ten I would give it a 9.5 for concept, a 7 for nudity, and a 2 for actual gameplay.
