Nocturnal Illusion is a fun romp into the fantastical life of a college student. If you played any Hentai games you know that the right words can go a long way to getting you in on the action, this one is no exception. It does have a thin plot line, but the interactions with the female characters (pretty much all the characters are female, except you and one other person) are where this game really hits home. The main character blacks out in the beginning and then he awakes in a house and is there with several beautiful women, for reasons beyond his control he cannot leave the premises.
The game interactions are through text choices, you choose where to go and who to talk to, and you must help to solve each of the women's problems, but you can't go out of order or miss anything at all. The problem with these games is that the system is done with checkpoints, and sometimes you can tire out your finger trying to get to the next part of the game because there are so many places you can go and several actions at each location (not to mention sometimes you have no idea what you are supposed to do). In these cases just exhausting all the possibilities can take time, so make sure to be ready to commit when you start playing, don't worry though, you can always save and come back to it later.
Because this is a hentai game, the end goal will be to help each woman and will in one way or another is a sexual encounter. The graphics in this game are pretty good as far as these old games go, it's a little less detailed than Paradise Heights, but not by much, just be ready for darker visuals. Some elements of the game are lacking however, such as the text. Some of the dialogues are extremely complex and deal with big issues, but the spelling is appalling. Don't worry, it's not that you have forgotten how to write words correctly, it's just that an amateur English learner wrote all of it.
All in all, it's a fun game that is sure to get you involved and will keep you entertained for quite a while as the game can take anywhere from 3 hours (speed-run) to around 5 or more. It all depends on if you understand the goal right away or have to spend some time looking around and clicking. The story does get more and more interesting, although, the locations won't change very much so expect to see things like statues a hundred times. The music isn't too great, but it can clue you in as to what is coming, and it will change drastically sometimes when an H-scene begins.Comments

Great game. The main character, Shinichi, is a very curious young man who ends up in a whole lot of trouble because of the different women that he meets inside the mansion. Easy to learn controls. Story was ok and you get to have many endings!Countingstars (05/20/2008)

Ah, Nocturnal Illusion. This forgotten gem was my first hentai game. Although I would agree some parts could’ve been better, it’s still sad that this game never saw the light of a sequel (or even an anime).
