5 Days a Stranger is indeed a magnificent horror game. The first game in Yahtzee's horror series (7 Days a Skeptic and Trilby's Notes are the other two games) and certainly the best one. You start the game as Trilby, a cat burglar who learns about the recent demise from owner of a mansion. Seeing this as an opportunity to make some quick cash, Trilby breaks in. Unfortunately, after breaking in, Trilby finds that there is no way out. You meet a variety of other characters, who share Trilby's fate of being trapped inside.
Gameplay is simple: point and click where you want to go. You will also have to use a variety of items (sometimes combining them) to solve puzzles. Some of the puzzles in this game are rather easy, but there are some points in the game that you may find impossibly difficult. The graphics are well done. The sound is also a good point to touch on, Yahtzee knows how to touch the mood. The dialogue in this game is also very well written. Trilby's charm, charisma, and wit keep the player hooked and you waiting for what Trilby is going to say next. One thing that should be known is that this game is not for the squeamish. The cut scenes in the game are
very bloody and gory. But this scenes, probably, helps to make this game so thrilling.
I have a few complaints about this game, but there is a part that I especially don't like. There are some parts that's almost impossible to solve on your own, without clicking madly about the room. This brings me to a very important rule of thumb: SAVE OFTEN. If you die, you will have to restart from your last save, or even worse - from the beginning of the game. You don't want to make it to the end of the game only to be killed by some careless mistake.
Overall, 5 Day's a Skeptic is a thrilling game that will keep you entertained. It's just long enough to beat in a few hours and will probably make you wish there was more to play. I would also recommend the other games in Yahtzee's series.
