Just by looking at the front of the box, any gamer can tell that B.A.T. II: The Koshan Conspiracy is an exciting blend of gaming genre. While the cover art can be very misleading in modern gaming, a closer look will show the potential player the multitude of features available in B.A.T. II that will make it a unique adventure for most players. It is the sequel to the original B.A.T., which fans waited two years to play.
B.A.T.
II: The Koshan Conspiracy, as alluded to above, is a unique blend of several gaming genres. It offers mainly role playing style of action, but has some shooter qualities, as well as some adventure style puzzle solving. It was released in the early nineties for play on the personal computer after some thoughtful development by Computer’s Dream. It was published by Ubi Soft, and while it did see some action on the Amiga and the Atari ST, it was intended mostly for the DOS operating system as a single player game.
B.A.T. II: The Koshan Conspiracy, like its predecessor, features an interesting cyberpunk theme that is futuristic and dark. The setting is the planet Shedishan, specifically ROMA 2, the
most influential city on the planet. The Bureau for Astral Troubleshooters (BAT) has been called to the city by the United Galaxies Organization to investigate the death of one of BAT’s own agents, Sylvia Hatford. She had been working on a tricky case involving a mysterious dealer who was in the business of importing raw materials to the planet. As second agent Jehan Menais, you will take over the investigation of the man who had Hartford’s interest, and may have taken her life.
A large part of the game is graphic adventure and it will take place in a two-dimensional, point and click style of gaming, and is primarily used within the city when collecting evidence and talking to non-playing characters about the crimes and other things. Another portion of the game will be more like a spacecraft simulation or even a shooter and there are multiple miniature games that can be played as either strategies or in an arcade mode to give the user a chance to exercise his quick fingers. With the puzzles included in the adventure portion of the game, there really aren’t many genre that have been left out of this conglomeration of gaming types. This one truly does have something for everyone.
