I recall picking this up in the local computer store long ago only because I didn't want to make a trip to the city and come back empty handed. I was fairly surprised by this game. It had voice for your character (an oddity at the time), real humor (the saloon you started in alone was saturated with it), and a fairly challenging game to boot.
I spent more time than the small amount of cash I plunked down for this one should have suggested playing this one.
It has many diverse "levels" in it as well. I mean after all it is Callahan CROSS TIME saloon...you better be able to visit exotic locals and weird vampires abodes after all...right? But seriously this game was a real gem when all I was really after was a nugget.
It harkens very much to the Sierra games of old like space quest. It has all the humor of those games with perhaps a little more challenge as well. I had a great time with this one and I am sure you will too. Have fun with the cocoa bean though....hated that part. LOL. I don't even remember there being any patches for this one either. A very rare.....very, very rare thing
indeed.
If I had to give it a rating out of 10 I’d have to say it would get about 8. A solid adventure sprinkled with humor and even decent graphics. I would say even the young kids could pick this one up and play it without hearing the whole "eww these graphics are terrible!" thing you hear from them young whipper snappers these days.
Only real problem with it as is the problem with all games of this kind is the length. If you’re good at solving problems this game can be beaten in no time not unlike any other adventure game but trust me it’s worth every bit of it. Especially since this is a (basically) free download...why not?
I would take a chance on this one if I was you. Just some of the conversations you have in the game alone are worth it. As I said there is voice for your character and most of the inhabitants as well I believe. You can stop by at Callahans cross time saloon anytime. The folk are friendly enough. Have a drink, talk to the local weirdos but for gods sake please do something with that hair! Your character looks like a real hippy. I don’t know how he fits in with this crowd at the saloon but you’ll find it quite an enjoyable experience there.
