Game Review (written by Jeanmonfort) Added on: 03/04/2007
I have not played Dinotopia in quite a long time, but what I do remember is a pretty solid game. The graphic system is good for its year, and if you at all familiar with the popular book series of the same name, then this game will be a treat for you. The concept of Dinotopia is a world where dinosaurs and humans live together in apparent utopia (hence the title). The fun in the game is the interaction – there is no serious battle sequences; the game is adventure and story based.
That is also the point of the game – interaction. You can move around on different dinosaurs and speak with others.
The variety of dinosaurs is apparent even in this older game – there are dinosaurs who work both as mounts and as actual characters you can interact with. What a fun concept, is it not? The idea of creating a world where The nicer details in the game involve the color – I still remember how nice the pictures were. Granted, because I was younger I was more easily impressed by computer graphics, yet looking at the game again it is still relatively artistic for its time.
The gameplay is relatively smooth, though a little jolted in places

(but it is an old game and I am willing to make allowances). This is not a Street Fighter type game, nor is it a Tetris based system. I make mention of this so that you better understand where the game sits. If you have played anything like Quest for Glory, or other RPGs that came out around this time, this is a game of a similar vein. There is some good dialogue, but not a lot of puzzles or violence. It is based on a children’s book series, after all, so the game itself can be rather tame, but this is not a negative aspect. Rather, the gentler aspects of the game allow you to really appreciate the time the makers put into the development of the graphics and the flow of things.
This also applies to the dialogue – though written in the vein of a younger audience, there are some very nice bits of dialogue. That said, there are also some clunkers, but it should not dissuade you from trying out this game. I saw it and was immediately transported back to my younger days (which come to think of it were not that long ago). I recommend this game to those who like a good story with a touch of awkwardness.
