Duckman: The Legend of the Fall. A good, classic game. I mean, it's from the tv show once played on the USA network, and later moved to ultra late night Comedy Central network. The show was very funny, but the game was, in my opinion, better. But enough about the show.
The game itself is good. I wouldn't call it "ahead of its time" or anything, but it was fun to play. I played it for the first time at a childhood friend's house, and I have not forgotten about it since that day.
This game has the most interesting interface I have ever seen in a game. Instead of using the traditional items, or even speak modes, it uses two "moods" to perform actions. Your calm mode would prefer the same action as talk or look. The other is your pissed off mood, which is used primarily to attack things and yell at things. I am in favor personally of the interface, for I have never seen anything so original in all my years of game playing. That's just one of the reasons that all people should try playing this game at least once.
The story is interesting as well. Duckman begins the game at a spa, while on vacation time off from his t.v. show.
Unfortunately, he finds out that he has been replaced on his show. A new duckman has taken over while duckman was away, and he is, you might say, a polar opposite of the original duckman. He is good to his community and the network loves him. As a result, everyone begins disowning and rejecting Duckman. The only way to beat all of this pressure is solve puzzles to get the job back and friends back.
The humor within the game is great. It reminds me of watching the television show late at night on Comedy Central (whatever happened to the show anyway?). The classic duckman humor involves some adult jokes, so some things seemed taboo when I played this as kid. In fact, I wouldn't recommend this game to my children (or any children for that matter!). Yeah, keep it away from them and play it yourself. I'll give it a "mature rating" for now.
Overall, I liked the game. As I have said, it most definitely made a solid, lasting impression on me. A three-star rating would definitely suffice.
