Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 01/10/2008
Fascination appears to be another point and click adventure game on the surface, but the themes and some of the other aspects of its game play make it different from most adventure games on the market. It was released by Coktel with some collaboration from Tomahawk in the early nineties and is actually a type of detective story, overshadowed by blatantly adult themes and mature content.
In Fascination, the user plays a lovely flight attendant from the early nineties named Doralice. Offering a female protagonist is one of the many things that make Fascination quite different from other adventure games.

In Fascination, the user plays a lovely flight attendant from the early nineties named Doralice. Offering a female protagonist is one of the many things that make Fascination quite different from other adventure games. Doralice is stationed in steamy Miami Florida, and has had the bizarre misfortune of becoming entangled in what amounts a drug deal gone bad. The botched

program results in a murder, for which Doralice will no doubt be blamed. Oh…and the drug is actually a chemical invented by a big businessman that drastically increases the sex drive of the person who uses it. Doralice has, by a fluke accident, acquired a sample of this miracle chemical. She has to find a way to get it into the appropriate hands without being made out as a murderer, or being killed herself by the same criminal faction.
Like Coktel’s other erotic titles, such as Emmanuelle, the game relies on the mature themes, scantily clad (or completely unclad) women, and sexy ideas to carry the game. The game play itself is not especially good, and the story line is more stupid than engaging. The choice of a female protagonist is not so much an effort in equality as a shameless excuse for showing off more body parts, such as making Doralice take a shower and so forth. The game play, aside from the blatant sexual nature of the game, Is not very good either. The plot is completely linear…so much that the user cannot even return to areas already visited. If the user forgets to do something at a particular venue and moves on, he must restore a saved game to make up for it. The puzzles are not very logical, and it is often impossible to tell if failing to solve one is due to not having the right inventory or simply not having any clue what it could possible do with the puzzle at hand.
In short, Fascination is not especially fascinating. If the user is looking for cheesy mature humor and a plotless sexy tale, this could be the winner. The graphics are nice and engaging, and they have to be to make up for all of the other shortcomings. Fascination is not without its merits, but it is not for everyone.
