Game Review (written by Lusmitty) Added on: 11/18/2007
Forbidden Castle is your standard thinking adventures game. It is a parcel adventure game with many hard puzzles or situations. This means a lot of time will be spent trying to think of what words should be entered to make the game go on. It is a text based game. Very similar to the old King's Quest games by Sierra in that it offers multiple ways around. Very non-linear. I first played this game when I 15 years old. So I'm a bit fuzzy on some of the details.

The plot and puzzles are excellent. There are multiple solutions past many of the games puzzles. For instance you can ride several animals in order to get around the map. Depending on

what creature you choose is the path that you will want to choose.
This is not a bad guy kidnaps the princess and locks her away in a tower and you have to rescue type game. Nor is it a destroy all the evil in the area type game. Basically there is a castle which is off limits to everyone. One day you decide to go and try to destroy it. You ask the king for help in this mission but he refuses. So you steal from him things like a sword and armor. You then use a creature or creatures to get you to the forbidden castle. You don't battle anyone or thing once you get there you have to use your brain to get to the end.
There is a lot of back tracking to this game so making a map is highly advisable. A lot of this back tracking has to do with the fact there are many route guards around and you have to give them a certain item to appease them so they move. There is also a great deal of replay value as well. Multiple ways to get around. Multiple ways to get past guards. There is some major thinking involved. Since this is a text only game it is very similar to the original Adventure game. Since there are no graphics it makes the game somewhat harder.
All in all a very decent text game. Be patient with it and you will have a lot of fun.
