One of the more remarkable qualities about this game is the display. In the first section you have a three-part display; an overhead of Paris, a 1st person 3D view from the car, and a scanner showing Mayday’s height. The second and third sections were more comfortable for me, being a more standard side-on view.
The plot follows the 007 movie of the same name. You start off in Paris where Bond jacks a taxi to chase after Mayday. It seems Mayday has jumped from the Eiffel Tower, and it is up to 007 to save her.
The police are out to stop 007 from fulfilling his quest by putting up roadblocks and generally being a nuisance. All it takes is a quick shot from James’s pistol, and they’re on their way.
In the second stage, James must save Stacy in a burning building. James must move from room to room, avoiding obstacles and collecting items to assist in the escape from the building. Overall, this is a rather tough stage. I often found myself struggling to find one last bucket of water to put out the fire that was preventing me from moving on. This was usually game over for me.
I did manage to make it to the third stage once, which incidentally gives you a password to return to that
level without playing the other two first. This password system also works for stage two. Anyway, third stage is rather tough. James is stuck in a mine trying to find the codes needed to deactivate the bomb. Mines are always dangerous in video games, and this is no exception. Falling rocks, deep pits, just part of James Bond’s fantastic life. There are gadgets that can be picked up to help along the way with the pits, but like the water buckets, I often found a hard time finding these.
I would give this game 8.5 out of 10 for decent gameplay, even though the sound and graphics were so-so at best.
