King's Quest: Quest for the Crown is an interesting medley of some of our favourite monsters and fairy tales and their stories wrapped together with our hero's quest. I haven't played this one, but the next in the series, Romancing the Stone, must be very similar to it. I first played this game 20 years ago or more, and back then it was exceptional for its graphics and play. You must seek out clues and collect items (like Neptune's trident), and talk/barter with mythical creatures to progress through the game and acquire the ultimate prize: the crown.

You must seek out clues and collect items (like Neptune's trident), and talk/barter with mythical creatures to progress through the game and acquire the ultimate prize: the crown. Some creatures are not friendly and would much rather eat you than talk to you, so be careful! When you hear the eerie music play, don't bother
to look what is coming, just leave the same way you got to this spot, quickly!
This game is definitely engaging. You need to keep track of where you have been, so it is a real time saver if you draw a grid map while you move from scene to scene. You will find yourself backtracking quite a bit. Sometimes you will get frustrated with your lack of progress, but do not worry! Patience will pay off in the long run and if it isn't soon enough for you, you can try searching the net for 'cheats' and other sources of information to help you along.
Once you solve the game it will be a long time before you will want to play it again, but play it again you will, once you have forgotten all of the tricks you worked through the first time around. It will be as interesting as the first time....it's that sort of game.
There are something like 7 games in this series. They are all interesting. The company producing the software has packaged all of these games together, and this was available at many bargain software outlets....Staples/Walmart/Zellers/etc. The package includes its own DoxBox software, so, if I remember correctly, the games all play right (not too fast/no random crashes/no buggy-graphics) with no configuring on your part.
Have lot's of fun!
