Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/11/2008
The Perils of Rosella is the fourth installment in the Kings Quest game series. It was released in1988 and was one of the very first adventure games that featured a female hero. The game picks up from where the third game left off. In the King’s Quest 3, there were two new characters that were introduced: Alexander, a prince and Rosella, a princess. Soon after Alexander saves his sister from a dragon, their father King Graham suffers from a heart attack and becomes close to dying.

Rosella loves her father so much that she seeks the help of a fairy named Genesta so that her father will be cured. Genesta tells Princess Rosella that she will help but only if Princess Rosella helps her

first. This is where the game King’s Quest 4 begins. Playing the role of Princess Rosella, you need to help Genesta regain her power which was lost after an evil fairy named Lolotte stole the talisman from Genesta. Now you must recover the Talisman so that Genesta can regain her strengths and powers so that she can come with you to Daventry to help save King Graham.
To get the Talisman, you need to perform three tasks for the evil Lolotte to earn her trust so you could gain the opportunity to get back the Talisman. You also need to get the magic fruit which will heal your father so that when you back to Daventry you will have everything needed to heal your father. If you are unable to find the magic fruit that will hurt the King, it is still possible to return to Daventry but the ending will not be entirely happy.
The game features much improved graphics and sounds from the three King’s Quest games that came before it. Still the graphics can not compete with the graphics of new RPG that are being released especially since the game was released 2 decades ago.
The game takes place only within a 24 hour period so it definitely puts pressure on the player to finish certain tasks that can only be done during the day before night time falls. The night scenes definitely added to the atmosphere and the texture of the game.
King’s Quest 4 is a must for all King’s Quest fans because it puts the life of King Graham into the player’s hands. Those who have no experience playing the three King’s Quest games that came before Perils of Rosella, will still enjoy this intelligent and well-made game.

This one is a classic! I remember playing this as a kid. No the graphics aren't great, but it's a game of thinking. When playing it just remember that it was made in the late 80's.

This was my favorite of all the King's Quest games. It may have been that I just loved that the main character was a girl, but the fairy tales and legends they incorporated in this one were great!
