Lure of the Temptress was quite possibly my first adventure game I played. This was years ago when the IBM 486 was big stuff. Let's just say, it got me hooked on computer games. Every computer game I played since then was compared and measured by this game. Obviously I thought pretty highly of the game.
The best part, I liked of the game was not the graphics, even though I appreciated them at the time; not the sound, though it was better than other MIDI games; it was the general atmosphere the game created.
Especially the beginning when you start in a closed cell, guarded by orcs.
The plot basically consisted of get out of the dungeon, into the city, talk to a lot of people, finish side quests, and eventually enter the Temptresses Palace and destroy her. Gameplay really only consisted of clicking on objects and the character saying, "I can't do that with that" or something to that nature. If NPCs were clicked on, they would speak, revealing hints perhaps to what you must click to cause this or that to occur. I think the character held a small inventory of items, that we see in almost every point-click, screen by screen adventure.
It is actually really intriguing to the younger person’s imagination, because of the intro, with the huge
orc army decimating the humans. Him (main character) being caught and imprisoned by the orcs, escaping and seeking out the evil Temptress Empress. It doesn't sport much fantasy, but too much makes the stomach turn. Just enough to wet the palette.
It is a very short game, though it took me and my brother over a year to complete (we didn't have any walkthroughs, so we had to try a lot of different combos of clicking on stuff & characters).
But it is a great game for young beginners of the genre. Which is funny I would say this, because I never did find a proper adventure game I liked since then (the point and click kind anyway).
Now this is all from my memory of a youngster, over 13 years ago, so much of my appreciations have changed since then; but if there's a boy who’s never played a good RPG, he'll have a lot of fun with this one.
