If you are looking for an adventure game that is short, sweet, challenging and offers a pretty good and interesting storyline, Majestic Part 1: Alien Encounters might have what you are looking for. A love for deep space and deep mystery will also make Majestic Part 1” Alien Encounters look good to an adventure gamer. This game plays along the same lines as Zero Critical or Syn-Factor since they all featured the same designer, Istvan Pely. This is one of his most obscure games, but it is still entertaining and well worth a play.
The story of Majestic is one out of the tales of history that has been shifted and twisted to accommodate a fun futuristic theme. You will be the leader of an investigation of a very high profile ship wreck. The Majestic was a top of the line space liner…a pleasure cruiser hyped to be the premier cruise ship in the galaxy. She does not, however, survive her maiden voyage. Something terribly mysterious and sinister occurs and the Majestic seems to vanish into thin air. An extensive search is launched to no avail. After the search is abandoned, the Venus Observatory picks up a signal beacon that is consistent with that of the Majestic in the distant Pleiades Nebula, which makes no sense.
You are sent to investigate.
The investigation process will take place from the perspective of up to four exploration nodes that you will employ at the site of the Majestic. This is basically how you will move around in this game. The nodes move from location to location and you control their actions from a shuttle at the main crash site. If you want to “move” to a different location, you simply switch to the view being delivered by the appropriate node. You are not required to use more than one node, and only a single node can be at any given location at one time.
The nodes are your tool, but they have tools of their own that will be at your disposal. They can obviously fly, but they are also equipped with a computer link, which is useful for communicating and downloading programs that they find. These programs will expand their capabilities. They also have a scanner for identifying items, a grappling hook for picking up and manipulating items, and a cutting tool to make them more mobile and able to find more inventory.
The nodes will be the puzzle solvers, and most of the puzzles are not too hard, although many of them are large and require an epic amount of manipulation to solve. This is what makes the game challenging and fun, just like any adventure game. Learn to use your nodes well, and you will make the max score in this game…although you don’t have to in order to complete the mission. It is nice, short and sweet.
