If your idea of fun is exploring a deserted mansion covered with dust and cobwebs, you will love this game. The game is set in the master of evil's lair, Osse; he is the ruler of the roost back in the old 555 rue morgue. He is given his property and title from his uncle Cheez Burger. His uncle dies in a horrid accident.
It is a really good text based game that requires not all that much skill to play. It was obviouslly pioneered from the Magnetic Scrolls series, so anyone familiar with that will pick Ooze up very quickly.
I felt it was a little behind for its time when it was released but still enjoyable and fun to play. The graphics are not quite as good as some of the other games of its time. However the game contains some really good music tracks, including some eerie laughs screams creaks and cracks. The room descriptions in this game are very elaborate and very well written; it shows that the designers put a lot of time and thought behind what it was they where planning on doing. All in all, I give this game 2 thumbs up!
There tends to be a compete lack of humor in this game. It is cut and dry and could have been better had some things been made funny
or more light hearted. The biggest challenge was the fact that sometimes it was very difficult to determine were the exits are located. Similarly, some objects in the game are next to impossible to determine what or where they are, and there is the occasional pixel hunt that we were all so used to in classic adventure games.
The whole premise of the game is that you take on the role of Ham Burger, and you have inherited this house...morgue. Having just taken up residence, you soon discover that there are some really disturbing things about this place!! And I am not talking about the spiders or the rats... you meet some ghosts, but the Casper kind. And before you know what hits you, you are off on a crusade to find the feared OOZE and eliminate this threat from the house so that life may be peacfull for you and your new found friends.
I can remember first playing this game at home in '89 or '90 when we fist got our Amiga computer; it was one of many that I enjoyed playing for hours on end. I really look forward to seeing some old friends from these games such as ghosts and a spooky Ham when he joins in all the fun and games. Give it a whirl; it's worth it trust me.
