In the game you need to control the central character named Alabama “Al” Smith, an adventurer who is working his way around the ancient Aztec pyramids. The game is very simple and straightforward. You just need to guide the hero through the puzzle avoiding traps and collecting special treasures along the way. You also need to avoid the animals and other enemies that are trying to harm Alabama.
The game
is divided into three parts- Romancing Rose, The Silver Dagger and Jewel of Yucatan. Only the first part of the game is a shareware. This is the same case for the other Apogee trilogies. The first games are usually sharewares while the next two games are not. What’s cool about this is how you can play each chapter on its own and the plot will stand but of course it’s still much more fun to play all the three sections of the game.
In the very first part of the game Romancing the Rose, Al is in ancient Aztec pyramid and while exploring the ruins releases a spirit that wants to destroy the world. In the second part called The Silver Dagger, Al explores the ruins even further and works on finding clues that will reveal how he can stop the evil spirit that he has released in the Romancing the Rose section. In the Jewel of Yucatan, Al discovers a twist to the plot and now has to work fast to escape the pyramid.
The sounds of the game aren’t too good but the graphics is pretty decent. The game play is the best part of the game. This game may not be as popular as the other games from Apogee but this game isn’t any less fun to play. There are some really incredible and fun twists to the game. Another thing that makes this game a super fun adventure game is how you can follow different routes in achieving your goal. Because the game is not linear and you can take any of the different routes in the game, you can have a different experience with the game each time you play it. The game definitely has very high replay value.
