When the world sierra is mentioned you would remember the old days of when adventure games were on top. In this review I shall tell you about one of the games that pioneered this genre: Space Quest.
The Space Quest series is one of the most Memorable Series not only in Sierra's hay day but in gaming itself. The first of this series and the basis of this review is Space Quest: The Sariens Encounter. It was created by Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy, You Play the game's protagonist Roger Wilco Space Janitor.
He works on the ship Arcada, when he awakes from his broom closet he finds that most of the crew is dead. The ship has been taken over by the Sariens. They are after the Star Generator and destroy planets to take over the universe. Take matter's worse the ship will blow in 15 minutes. So Roger must escape the Arcada and stop the Sariens.
This game being the original the graphics are a 16 color scheme. This for the time was the best you could do. The graphics are satisfactory for the game they serve their purpose. The game-play in this day and age may take a little getting use to. You move Roger with the arrow keys. And when you want to
do something you must use the keyboard commands. Like I said the controls will get some getting use to but you'll get it's nowhere near impossible. Also remember the golden rule save early, save often. The music of Space Quest I is the most irritating. The reason being is sound cards won't be incorporated in Space Quest until Space Quest III. So where does that leave us until then well, all we get are blips and bleeps that are loud and is the quality of phone dials.
I recommend this game for people who like adventure games and gamers that want to go back to the roots of video games.
