Spell casting 101: Sorcerers Get All The Girls was the first “Risqué” game I played. I remember it fondly… Sitting in my friend’s basement… eating pizza… late at night… with both of us trying desperately to see badly pixelated EGA scantily clad women…
Okay, so I was a geek. The point is it was fun. Incredibly fun in fact. Spellcasting 101 was also one of the first games I had played that had a sense of humor. In today’s times I would liken it to a combination of “Harry Potter” and “Animal House”.

In today’s times I would liken it to a combination of “Harry Potter” and “Animal House”. Think Harry Potter in University… With a close semblance to actual college life, your first goal in the game after escaping your wretched little town of Port Gekko is to register at school. Then,
before even opening a book (besides your spellbook) you are partying away at I Phelta Thigh and Tappa Kegga Brew. Unfortunately, you are playing the role of Ernie Eaglebeak and Ernie is a nerd. Regardless of this, all the women seem to want to rip off his clothes. Welcome to Sorcery U where the babes and bullies alike can’t wait to get their hands on you.
If you are looking for intense graphics then look elsewhere. This is a text adventure. Lots of words and little pictures (the images are in the top right corner and change based on location and events). Later in life I began playing Hentai games and if you enjoy those, this game is similar with smaller graphics. It’s also and adventure game but if you are used to D&D style games don’t expect to be casting “Fireball” or “Cure Light Wounds”. This game has spells like “KABBUL” and “BUNDEROT”. This is an adult game, however if you like adult humor but are offended by images of ladies in their underwear (there is no actual nudity in the game) Legend was kind enough to include a naughty option and a nice option.
The game was written and designed by Steve Meretzky of “Leather Goddesses of Phobos” fame and published by Legend Entertainment back in 1990. Infocom was recently deceased and Legend needed a title. Its first project was Spellcasting 101 and obviously it made an excellent choice. Spellcasting 101 won the 1991 CES Showcase award and the 1991 Computer Gaming World Magazine Adventure Game of the Year. CGW was so impressed that they said “Legend Entertainment will turn the adventure game market on its ear”. Legend must have taken that as their cue as they went on to use a similar text parser system for other classics like “Erik the Unready”, “Gateway” and even as late as 1993 for “The Companions of Xanth”.
