An ok text adventure for first time players, but becomes kind of a hobby for players of silent hill, and readers of the mist, the short story it is based on. This text adventure closely follows the events of the book, but now you find yourself a gun, run in the mist, and try to solve your way out. For non readers of the book, you and your son go to the local supermarket, when suddenly the power goes off, and a grey mist covers the town ok, a storm .
But something’s wrong. Everyone feels a sudden short drop and something’s moving in the mist and people aren’t coming back and a mad woman, the local religious/folklore nut, starts demanding a sacrifice of the scared people.
One of the most annoying features is the use of the gun. Not just a plot device like in most text adventures, this has a hit percentage, which can mean that, even if you do everything correctly, you can still miss EVERY SHOT, and die right in the middle of the street, through no fault of your own. Makes you scared to face confrontation, but kind of the point, but you get tired of starting over anyway, you must brave the fog outside, but what do you do? Explore the
store, see what you can find that can help you leave with other brave and desperate people from the store, not understanding what’s going on, but you need to know. I don’t want to give away to much, but you know it must be good. Fans of half life will love the references also.
Overall, pieces of a great, mood and atmosphere early Stephen King story (without all the EVIL) clipped together with a interesting text adventure system. I highly recommend that you read the story or hear the audio book(or at least play silent hill) first before playing. But, it’s a short download, so give a try, you might like it.
