Game Review (written by Evildeadonline) Added on: 11/14/2006
The Hobbit is one of the earliest computer games that I remember for the computer. I originally played it for the Commodore, but this is basically the same translation. Hopefully this one for MS-DOS actually has the music to it. If you want a blast to the past, and are looking for some good old Tolkien action, this is the one. Although I am not entirely familiar with all the computer games that were out back in the day, this was basically my favorite of what was available back then?
Graphics – it’s being a text adventure, we really weren't concerned with graphics back in the day.

Remember, this is a text adventure. We're not talking Xbox 360; we're talking about OPEN DOOR, GO N. LOOK... these kinds of things. Half the fun was getting stupid with trying to figure out the right command
I used to love the soundtrack that went to this thing. I totally became Bilbo Baggins when I would hear the familiar music
As far as text adventures go, this had anything you could possibly want from this type of game. Got a direction to go? Explore it! Again, this is a simple type of game for a simpler computer gaming age, but that's the kinds of things we're looking for here, right?
Although there may be better text adventures out there in the world, this is the only one that comes
The HobbitThe HobbitThe Hobbit
to mind. There was something surreal about the simple soundtrack that went along to it and the haunting and beautiful Tolkien landscapes that came to mind with the descriptions that crept onscreen. The Hobbit is a fascinating and enchanting book, and this simple game did it justice with a fun little adventure that got your mind working. There is something to be said about a text-based game whose source material is a great book. In a way, the text-based adventure is the only real way to bring the book to life, short of being Peter Jackson and having a whole movie studio at your disposal.
If you are in the mood for a fun time, and are a fan of the Tolkien's works, then The Hobbit is an absolute must for you. Download it immediately, sit back, and spend some time as your favorite middle-earth.

Awesome retro stuff. Brings back some good memories. I always remember Thorin singing about Gold. Plus making the mistake of being killed by the spiders

I remember my little sister playing this, one of the earliest adventure games I can recall. Say to Thorin carry me became a catch phrase. There was a glitch somewhere in the game where it came out with loads of gibberish, my favourite was ignificant, I felt it had some deep meaning.

The Hobbit is the first part of the "lord of the rings"-serie, but the game "The Hobbit" is a lot older than lord of the rings 1&2. You can play with pictures, but it's mostly text-based.
