Absolute Pinball is one of those games, that combines the nostalgia of old computer games with the nostalgia of old pinball machines. If you are like me, you still have not found any modern arcade games that deliver quite the fun of old fashion pinball games. Of course, that does not mean that I am any good at them, but they are so much fun! Absolute Pinball gives you different tables to work with and of course different themes, flippers, bumpers, lights and obstacles.
My favorite table is the desert run table which has some unique features. The game is unlike other computer pinball games that I have ever played. They have this one graphic that makes it to where the ball can
go up a simulated glass ramp. It looks like the ball is really on a different plane than just the table floor.
I also really like the magnets that are scattered in the game. They push the ball away from certain parts of the table and it takes time and practice to get the hang of working around and with them. Of course the game has all the typical features like a multiball mode which adds all the cool demands of quick response and multitasking your brain to keep up with the bouncing and reacting. I also dig the moveable ball launchers which lets you launch to get different reactions from the ball right from the start.
But maybe my favorite feature is the head to head mode. I am always a fan of challenging a friend to a game of pinball and this game gives you the capacity to do just that. It keeps individual score for each of you so that you have bragging rights on each table of Absolute Pinball. I found the game to be better than expected, well at least it was back in the day. But again, the nostalgia around old pinball and old computers for me is so fantastic. I like putting aside all the fancy graphics and complex gaming systems to enjoy the fun and simplicity of a pinball experience. It makes a great game to boot up when you need a time waster or just a quick, mindless break from a stressful project. Plus, it is challenging enough, with different tables and the head to head option to keep you enjoying it for more than just one or two attempts. I think it is well worth a download, because I think it is one of the better arcade style games from its era.
