Actraiser is one of the best games to ever come out for the SNES. Have you ever dreamed of being a God and controlling people? Actraiser was one of the first games to really employ that concept. You are a God that has a little angle messenger who does all of your work on earth (or whatever planet it is) for you. The angel is able to shoot arrows, so you get to fight with an angel as well. You also get to get upgrades for your angel messenger.
And this is just the angel!
When you get past that part of the game, there are around 10 or so lands that you have to “free” from a boss monster. You do this
by becoming your mortal self (the God) and fighting through a level or stage. When you defeat the stage by killing the boss and freeing the land, you get to start building up your people within that area. You have to seal off monster dens by using your people, and you have to make sure that not too many people get carried off by the monsters, or else you will never progress. You do this by killing the monsters as they come out with the arrows from the angel weapon.
You receive “sacrifices” from the people you rule over, and these help you to progress in the game. After your people’s civilization has leveled up some, you have to fight the last boss of that area. When you defeat it, the people are able to run the town by themselves, and then you get to move on to a whole new area with different rules. You fight the beginning monster and build the town how you see fit. Each time you finish one area, you get the special “power” of that area that will benefit another area or a previous area.
You can travel back and forth between the areas to make them all better and to have them all support each other. Sometimes you cannot quite finish an area until you get the special “power” or “technique” to help support the area. You as a God get special power ups throughout the game, as does your angel messenger. You towns evolve and become more civilized as you play. The best part is that the game very successfully combines the Action, side-scroller style with the RPG and Simulator Styles. The game is awesome, and graphics are not half bad. The music is good and the game-play is awesome! If you like the SNES system, this is one game you can’t miss!
